My name is Emma Bartley and I am a Qualified and Accredited Counsellor. I have over 10 years experience in talking therapies. I originally started as a Samaritan, supporting people with suicidal feelings. I then moved full time into the talking therapy world, qualifying as a Psychodynamic Counselling.
I am a warm, friendly, empathic person. I am a natural listener, I enjoy giving people a chance to be really heard, in a way that often gets lost in everydayness. I am passionate about giving people the opportunity to know and trust in their own minds, and believe that is a major part of my work.
My area of expertise is with Counselling adults who have suffered in childhood or are presently struggling in someway, as a child. This wouldn’t necessarily be from a specific traumatic experience, such as bereavement, abuse or neglect. It could quite likely be from something far less specific and obvious. Sometimes just having a complicated relationship with a parental figure can have a massive impact on life.
Children who are suffering from low self esteem, anxiety or worry, can act this out in quite unpredictable ways at school and/or at home. A lot of children, especially when still young, do not understand or have the words to describe how they are feeling. It is my job to help children understand more about how they are feeling. I also support parents alongside of working with their child.
I have a Private Practice in Cheltenham seeing Adults, Couples, Children and Adolescents. I am available for appointments in the day and some evenings. As well as working in Private Practice, I am a School Counsellor in a local Primary School, counselling children and supporting their parents.
